P. is for Practical
P. is for Practical. Stay practical. Here we focus on where we want to end up in a project or event – that day, that week, that year. This clarity helps us to have a focused sense of the destination and then reverse engineer possible ways to get there. When you are clear on the hoped-for outcomes, you can be flexible and adjust along the way. This program will help you to get practical about your big-picture goals.
L. is for Lively. We could have a boring, dull workplace existence or we could bring a little lift into it, a little human-ness. In a prior work life, I had a long walk between where I could park my car and the many, many steps to my office. En route, I saw many people who seemed the farthest thing from lively. So, I would try to see how many people I could convert to smiling without even saying anything as I walked from my car, across the parking lot, towards the building, inside the building, and towards my office. I’d make friendly eye contact and whip out a smile and see if they could catch any of my positive energy. Even though most were strangers, they often smiled back. In this program, we will learn about and practice subtle ways to shift the energy to design a lively worklife. So that you, your staff, and your Board can be primed to dive in to do creative, innovative, and productive work.
I have previously written about other approaches to human-ing (being human) here: https://askannabanana.substack.com/p/how-to-stay-human-in-an-ai-driven

A. is for Active. Movement can help to calm the nerves, help people to get centered, and to get focused on the next task. Learn ways to foster a work environment where people feel inspired to get up off of their seats now and then. An active workplace inspires positive and collegial energy. Let’s go!
One way to co-practice some activity at work is to hold walking meetings, which I have written about here: https://askannabanana.substack.com/p/energy-management-as-a-form-of-leadership

Y. is for Yes! The idea of Yes! has lots of applications, from the Yes, And improvisational approach to the Yes, And brainstorm approach that I teach in my board and staff trainings. Notice what you want to say Yes to more than what you want to say no to. In this program, we will explore ways to say Yes! and the considerations involved in doing so.
For more on the workplace concept of Yes (as in, concepts that you want to nurture at work), see my post about navigating the workplace here: https://askannabanana.substack.com/p/navigating-the-workplace

Now. When we focus on the here and now, we are practicing sharp focus on what we need right here, right now, right in this moment. Learning how to be present helps to quell nerves, reduce anxiety, and to stay productive. It helps us to achieve those goals that we identified in the P. for Practical part of our Pathway to Leadership experience. In this program, we will experience the benefits of practicing having laser focus on the now.
